Interesting and awkward recruiter conversations
I have spoken to a few recruiters in my time. It just dawned on me that others might enjoy some of the interesting recruiter conversations that I have had.
One recruiter called me and I heard what sounded like a waterfall in the background. I like water so I asked if she was near a waterfall or garden or something like that. She surprised me when she said “Oh no, I was just stepping out of the shower.” Ok. Not really sure what to reply to that. I think I made a joke about at least one of us was clean.
Another time a recruiter asked if I had any problems with nudity. I gave him the answer and he said “Good because the client is Playboy.” I went there and they had the Playboy models pictures on the walls and it was a very interesting environment. The recruiter asked if I had any problems working in a place that he said many consider to be immoral. I said that every legal job was fair game to me.
One recruiter invited me to a job fair in her hometown. After that we went to the bar where her husband was playing. I met this huge guy like 3 times my size. He was friendly and I think used to this process. I was making small talk with her and she said that she takes lots of medicines. I try to be kind with people so I said something like yes sometimes we need things to feel better. She opened her big purse and showed me dozens of medications she was taking. I was floored. I didn’t know what to say. I said well its good you have such a through doctor.
Another recruiter asked if I had any problems with a company that requires drug tests. I said no I love to take drugs tests and he said “I’d be afraid if I had to take one.” and was serious. I didn’t know what to say. I think I made a joke about I won’t have any problem passing mine.
If you get in an awkward situation with a recruiter try to make a joke and redirect the conversation. It has worked well for me.
