Need to increase the default number of open files for the Mac?

Two hundred and fifty-six is the default limit for the number of files open by a single process. With this command however you can increase it to almost unlimited.  This could be an important optimization step depending on your task.

Open your Terminal and type the following commands:

sudo echo “limit maxfiles 1000000 1000000″ > /etc/launchd.conf

launchctl limit maxfiles 1000000 1000000
